Family Reunification Visa in Chile

Bring a spouse, partner, children or parents to Chile — or regularize the status of family already here.

What this involves

Chile grants residence on the basis of family ties to a Chilean national or to a foreigner who already holds residence. It covers spouses, civil-union partners, children and, in defined circumstances, dependent parents.

The substance of these applications is documentary. A foreign marriage certificate has to be apostilled, translated and often registered in Chile before it can support a visa; a foreign birth certificate has to establish the relationship unambiguously. Where the couple is unmarried, the evidentiary burden shifts to proving a real and continuous relationship, and that file needs building deliberately rather than assembled at the last minute.

What we handle

Relationship assessment

We confirm which tie qualifies and what standard of proof Chile applies to it — married, civil union or de facto partnership are each treated differently.

Foreign document legalization

Apostilles, certified translations and, where needed, registration of a foreign marriage or birth in the Chilean civil registry.

Application for each family member

Separate but coordinated filings so approvals do not arrive months apart.

Minor children

The additional authorizations required when a child travels or resides with one parent, including the other parent's consent where applicable.

Conversion to permanent residency

Planning each family member's route so the household reaches permanent residency together.

How we run this for a client abroad

02

Power of attorney

Granted at a Chilean consulate or apostilled where you live. It lets us act for you in Chile without you travelling.

03

Our attorneys handle the filings and appearances in Chile. You get plain-English updates at every stage.

Family Reunification Visas — common questions

What English-speaking clients ask us most about this specific service.

We are not married. Does a partner qualify?
A registered civil union is recognized in Chile and supports an application. An unregistered de facto relationship is harder but not impossible — it requires evidence of a real, continuous and public relationship, and the file has to be built with that in mind. In some cases formalizing the union first is simply the faster route.
Can my spouse work in Chile on this visa?
Family-based permits generally allow the holder to work, but the scope depends on the specific permit granted. It is worth confirming before your spouse accepts an offer, because working outside the authorization can affect the later permanent-residency application.
Our marriage certificate is from the United States. Is it valid in Chile?
It has to be apostilled in the issuing state and translated by a recognized translator. Depending on what you need it for, it may also have to be registered with the Chilean civil registry. We tell you which of those steps your particular application requires.
Can I bring my parents?
Dependent parents can qualify in defined circumstances, and the assessment centers on genuine economic dependence rather than the family tie alone. These applications are more evidence-intensive than spouse or child cases and benefit from being prepared carefully.
